Start with the connection shown under Settings → Projects → your project → Integrations → GitHub. Then check the matching symptom below.

The repository is missing or verification fails

Open GitHub App installations and check that the app is installed on the correct account or organization. Add the specific repository to its allowed repositories if needed. Confirm the owner and repository name in Kaneo. An organization owner may need to approve the installation or permission changes.

Credentials changed, but Kaneo still fails

Update the instance’s GitHub environment variables, then recreate the application container:
A plain container restart does not reload .env. Check the app ID, webhook secret, and private key format. For PEM formatting problems, use GITHUB_PRIVATE_KEY_BASE64 with the encoded full key. Do not paste the private key or secret into a support issue.

GitHub events never arrive

The webhook URL for the bundled deployment is:
In the GitHub App settings, open Advanced and inspect recent deliveries. Check the response code and body for the failing event.
  • A connection error points to DNS, TLS, firewall, or proxy configuration.
  • A 404 can mean the proxy dropped /api or the webhook path is wrong.
  • A signature error means the webhook secret may differ between GitHub and Kaneo.
After correcting the cause, redeliver the failed event in GitHub and check the result in Kaneo.

Tasks or issues do not sync

Check that the app has the permissions and event subscriptions in GitHub App setup. After changing permissions, accept the installation update in GitHub. Create one test task, then one test issue in the connected repository. Check the API logs and webhook delivery for each direction separately. Creating a task exercises Kaneo’s outgoing GitHub credentials; creating an issue exercises GitHub’s incoming webhook path. For existing issues, use Import Issues. If an import stops, return to the integration settings and choose Resume import. See import behavior before starting another run.

Branches and pull requests do not move tasks

Check the branch naming pattern in the project’s integration settings. The default is {slug}-{number}, for example web-22 for task WEB-22. Then check:
  1. The app can read pull requests and repository contents.
  2. Push and pull-request events are subscribed and arriving.
  3. Workflow → Automations maps the event to the intended column.
  4. The task is eligible for the transition. A completed task only moves for new work: a branch or pull request that is not yet linked to it.
Try one branch push and inspect its webhook delivery before testing another event.

Labels look different

Kaneo uses reserved labels such as priority:high and status:in-progress. Check their spelling and the Issues write permission. Ordinary labels are separate from these reserved status and priority labels.

Ask for help

Include the Kaneo version, the event that failed, its delivery status, and a redacted error from the API logs in a GitHub issue. Do not include credentials or private issue content.
